Bagamoyo Heritage Run (BHR) is organized by The Runners Sports Agency on behalf of The Runners Club, the largest social running club in Tanzania, with more than 1,000 members and thousands of followers and supporters. The Club is registered under the National Sports Council of Tanzania Act, 1967 as a sports club, registration number NSC 12396. The Club is the organizer of Absa Dar City Marathon and the Dar Night Run (DNR).
BHR is Tanzania's premier sports tourism festival combining sports, tourism, health promotion, culture, entertainment and investment promotion in Bagamoyo, one of country’s most treasured historical and cultural destinations. The race showcases the town’s historical landmarks including the Old Arab Fort, German Customs House, Fish Market, Old Harbor, Boat Building Area, Old German Boma, Caravan Serai, Hanging Tower, Catholic Historic Museum, Mission Cross, Historic Mango Avenue, Msalabani Beach, Kaole Ruins and Beachfront Promenade.

Bagamoyo was the main port and capital of the colonial Tanganyika territory and is home to priceless cultural heritage, historical architecture, pristine beaches, and vibrant arts that continue to attract local and international visitors. The event embraces the spirit of “Run in Color,” symbolizing diversity, inclusion, community and the vibrant Tanzanian culture.Participating running club will proudly wear their unique club colors, transforming the streets of Bagamoyo into a spectacular display of energy, friendship, and unity.
Goal and Objectives
The goal is to establish BHR as Tanzania’s premier heritage and tourism road race while promoting healthy lifestyles, domestic tourism, community participation, and awareness of Bagamoyo’s growing role as a strategic economic gateway. The race seeks to:
• Promote Bagamoyo as a leading heritage and tourism destination.
• Encourage healthy lifestyles through regular physical activity.
• Showcase the growing network of running and fitness clubs in Tanzania.
• Promote domestic tourism and increase visitor numbers to Bagamoyo.
• Raise awareness of the Bagamoyo Port, logistics and industrial developments.
• Stimulate local economic activity through sports tourism.
