Training Programme for African Supreme Audit Institutions on AI and Data Science

• ZANZIBAR: AFRICAN public audit institutions have been urged to adopt Artificial Intelligence (AI), data science and cybersecurity tools to strengthen the detection of fraud, financial irregularities and misuse of public.
• The call was made on Monday by Tanzania’s Controller and Auditor General (CAG), Charles Kichere, during the opening of a two-week training programme at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, Zanzibar Branch.
• The training brought together representatives of Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) from several African countries.
• He further said data science can help auditors examine spending trends across ministries, financial years and supply chains.
• For instance, procurement data may reveal cases where a single supplier wins an unusually high number of tenders, suggesting possible unfair competition.
