Tanzania Cotton Board's Target for Fivefold Increase in Cotton Yields

• MWANZA: THE Tanzania Cotton Board (TCB) is targeting a fivefold increase in cotton yields through improved farming technologies and fertiliser use, aiming to raise average production from 200 kilogrammes to 1,000.
• According to the board, higher productivity will improve farm profitability, raise rural incomes and strengthen the cotton sector’s contribution to the national economy.
• Mr Charles said improved agronomic practices not only increase output but also enhance fibre quality, enabling farmers to secure better returns and strengthening Tanzania’s position in regional and international cotton.
• He also assured growers that market access remains reliable, noting that the board continues to work closely with buyers and other industry stakeholders to ensure all cotton produced by farmers is purchased.
• Speaking at the ongoing Nane Nane Agricultural Exhibition at Nyamhongolo grounds in Mwanza yesterday, TCB Agriculture Officer Mr Dotto Charles said the event provides a platform to train farmers on modern cotton.
