163.43 Billion Project to Address Water Shortages and Support Economic Activities

TLDR

• The 163.43bn/- project, being implemented by the government in partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB), will produce 128 million litres of water per day and store about 390 billion litres upon completion.
• DODOMA: CONSTRUCTION of the long-awaited Farkwa Dam in Chemba District, Dodoma Region, is set to begin in October this year, raising hopes for a lasting solution to water shortages in the area.
• The project has involved relocating residents from affected areas, with the government paying 8.5bn/- in compensation to people from Mombose and Bubutole villages.
• It will serve Chemba, Bahi and Chamwino districts, as well as neighbouring areas, while also supporting irrigation, fisheries and other economic activities, particularly during dry seasons.
• A hydrogeologist from the Ministry of Water, Mr David Manyama, said preparations were at an advanced stage ahead of the October start.
