President Museveni authorised Nation Media Group's Ugandan outlets to resume operations roughly a month after his son, army chief Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, ordered them shut, following Rostam Aziz's Taifa Group engagement at State House Entebbe.

Rostam Aziz travelled to Entebbe for private talks with President Yoweri Museveni and Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba after the Ugandan military shut down NTV Uganda and the Daily Monitor. It is his first major political-commercial test since Taarifa Ltd acquired 54.08% of Nation Media Group in March 2026, ending 66 years of Aga Khan ownership. The diplomacy protects capital and the value of NMG shares listed on the NSE and DSE.

Rostam Aziz, as Chairman of Taifa Group, received Tanzania's highest investment honour from the Tanzania National Chamber of Commerce (TNCC), presented by the government at the 2026 Business and Investment Conference. The award affirms his role as a pillar of the private sector, strengthening commercial credibility across his companies and attracting further joint-venture capital into major projects he controls.

Taifa Gas is in the final stages of completing a $130 million LPG storage terminal in Mombasa, Kenya, to be linked with Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar facilities into a single regional energy network. Through Taifa Group, Rostam Aziz is also expanding mining capital, partnering strategically with Lake Victoria Gold and Barrick Gold to advance the Imwelo gold project.

The Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development has agreed to sell its entire shareholding in NPRT Holdings Africa Limited, which holds 54.08% of Nation Media Group PLC, to Taarifa Ltd., a vehicle owned by Tanzanian billionaire Rostam Aziz.

TAIFA Group, one of the private investments in East Africa, says it plans to invest over $500 million in Zambia with regards to gas distribution, power generation and contract mining. Group Chairman Rostam Aziz said Zambia had become a major focus country for Taifa Group.

Axian Group of Madagascar said in a statement that in partnership with Rostam Aziz, it has closed the acquisition of Tigo and Zantel in Tanzania, giving him part ownership of Tigo Tanzania (13 million+ customers) and Zantel.

Tanzanian billionaire Rostam Aziz is in the process of offloading his remaining shares in Vodacom Tanzania. South Africa's Vodacom Group is targeting the businessman's 26.25 per cent stake in its subsidiary, valued at approximately $220 million.
