- MWANZA: THE Tanzania Cotton Board (TCB) is targeting a fivefold increase in cotton yields through improved farming technologies and fertiliser use, aiming to raise average production from 200 kilogrammes to 1,000.
- He said the board has established demonstration plots at its pavilion where farmers can compare traditional farming methods with recommended practices, including the correct application of fertilisers and improved crop.
- Mr Charles said improved agronomic practices not only increase output but also enhance fibre quality, enabling farmers to secure better returns and strengthening Tanzania’s position in regional and international cotton.
- Speaking at the ongoing Nane Nane Agricultural Exhibition at Nyamhongolo grounds in Mwanza yesterday, TCB Agriculture Officer Mr Dotto Charles said the event provides a platform to train farmers on modern cotton.
- He also assured growers that market access remains reliable, noting that the board continues to work closely with buyers and other industry stakeholders to ensure all cotton produced by farmers is purchased.
