Construction of Bonded Warehouse at Mkoani Port to Improve Cargo Handling and Security

• DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) is set to install a cargo scanner at Mkoani Port in Pemba to strengthen customs control, curb smuggling and seal revenue leakages linked to undeclared and prohibited.
• The move comes as TRA advances plans to construct a bonded warehouse at Mkoani, which he said would further improve cargo handling and security at the port.
• Mkoani Port Customs Station Supervisor, Mr Abdallah Salim Abdallah, said the warehouse would improve service delivery while contributing to increased government revenue.
• The planned scanner and bonded warehouse will strengthen customs enforcement while enabling more efficient cargo handling,” he said.
• TRA Commissioner General, Mr Yusuph Juma Mwenda, said the scanner will enhance inspection of cargo entering through the port, enabling the authority to detect goods that evade customs duties and block prohibited imports.
