The Commissioner General of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda, has called on new business owners to register for Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TIN) in order to benefit from the one-year tax exemption provided by the Government as part of the measures announced during the approval of the 2026/2027 Government Budget.
Speaking during his official visit to Temeke and Ilala Tax Regions at Chang’ombe Tax Centre in Dar es Salaam on August 6, 2026, Commissioner General Mwenda said the tax exemption programme for newly established businesses across the country commenced on July 1, 2026.
He explained that the initiative aims to support business growth, encourage more entrepreneurs to formalise their businesses, increase the number of registered taxpayers, and create a more conducive environment for business development in Tanzania.
Commissioner General Mwenda further urged taxpayers to make effective use of the Business Facilitation Desks established at TRA offices across the country, which provide support by addressing challenges, offering business guidance, and linking taxpayers with relevant financial institutions.
“Business Facilitation Desks in every region and our tax offices continue to provide support services to taxpayers by resolving challenges, offering advice, and connecting them with financial institutions. I encourage taxpayers to utilise these services effectively,” said Mr. Mwenda.
The Temeke Regional Business Facilitation Desk Coordinator, Ms. Irene Lodia, said the desk has continued to serve taxpayers across different categories, including small, medium, and large businesses, by helping address various challenges affecting their operations.
Meanwhile, the Acting Temeke Tax Region Manager, Mr. Suleiman Mwadini, commended taxpayers for their continued commitment to paying taxes voluntarily and encouraged new business owners to seize the opportunity provided through the one-year tax exemption programme.
TRA continues to encourage entrepreneurs to formalise their businesses by registering for TIN and accessing available support services to promote sustainable business growth and compliance.
