The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has concluded a five-day performance review meeting for the 2025/2026 financial year held in Arusha, where it outlined strategies to achieve the Government’s revenue collection target of Sh. 41.830 trillion for the 2026/2027 financial year.

Closing the meeting, the Chairman of the TRA Board of Directors, Mr. Uledi Abbas Mussa, said that achieving the target requires TRA employees to continue strengthening the existing good relationship between the Authority and taxpayers.

He commended TRA for its achievements in revenue collection and taxpayer service delivery, noting that the Authority’s record-breaking performance was not achieved by chance, but through deliberate strategies and commitment from its employees.

Mr. Mussa emphasized that the achievements should serve as motivation for greater efforts towards attaining even higher institutional and national goals. He added that teamwork and work discipline remain key pillars in sustaining the Authority’s success, noting that various countries have continued to learn from TRA’s revenue collection systems and approaches.

On his part, the Commissioner General of TRA, Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda, said that the strategies developed during the meeting will enable the Authority to achieve and surpass the Sh. 41.830 trillion revenue target.

He explained that during the financial year ending June 2026, TRA collected Sh. 37.96 trillion, equivalent to 105 percent of the target of Sh. 36.07 trillion. The Authority recorded an average monthly collection of Sh. 3.165 trillion, while the new target requires an average monthly collection of Sh. 3.480 trillion.

Mr. Mwenda said the 2026/2027 target represents an increase of Sh. 320 billion per month, a goal that will be achieved through collective efforts and cooperation with taxpayers across the country.

“During the tenure of the Sixth Phase Government, TRA’s revenue collection capacity has grown from Sh. 21 trillion to Sh. 41.830 trillion. This is a significant milestone that reflects the growth of businesses and economic activities in the country,” said Mr. Mwenda.

He further stated that in the 2026/2027 financial year, TRA will continue supporting businesses through the Business Facilitation Desk and by engaging taxpayers directly to listen to their concerns and provide solutions to challenges they face.

Regarding tax assessments, the Commissioner General said TRA will continue ensuring fairness by issuing tax assessments that correspond with the income and business conditions of individual taxpayers.

He urged TRA leaders to strengthen good relations with taxpayers and ensure timely resolution of challenges, emphasizing that a positive relationship between TRA and taxpayers is a key pillar in achieving government revenue collection goals.

Commenting on TRA United, the Commissioner General congratulated the team for being good ambassadors of tax education and voluntary tax compliance, expressing confidence that the team will continue performing well.
