Low Back Pain

Low Back Pain symptom guide: what it can mean, possible causes, and when to seek care. Educational only.

Overview

Low Back Pain can be a symptom of many different conditions. This card offers general educational orientation only; a clinician can help assess causes and next steps. Seek care if symptoms are severe, sudden, or persistent.

Possible causes

  • Overuse
  • Joint inflammation
  • Injury
  • Poor posture
  • Immune-system related conditions

When to see a doctor

Seek urgent care if symptoms are severe, rapidly worsening, or come with trouble breathing, severe chest pain, confusion, or heavy bleeding. Otherwise, talk with a clinician if they last several days or interfere with daily activities.
