Overview
Fainting can follow long standing, dehydration, pain, or heart problems. After fainting, assessment is warranted—especially for older adults or if it recurs. Do not drive until evaluation is done.
Possible causes
- Sudden low blood pressure
- Dehydration
- Severe pain or fear
- Heart rhythm problems
- Low blood sugar
When to see a doctor
Get emergency care after fainting, especially with chest pain, confusion, or injury.
