Overview

Dehydration causes thirst, dry mouth, dizziness, and dark urine. Children and older adults are at higher risk. Water and ORS help mild cases; confusion or inability to drink is an emergency.

Possible causes

  • Heat / heavy sweating
  • Low fluid intake
  • Fever
  • Hard exercise without fluids

When to see a doctor

Seek care promptly for confusion, inability to drink, sunken eyes, or severe diarrhoea.
