Blisters symptom guide: what it can mean, possible causes, and when to seek care. Educational only.

Overview

Blisters often follow friction from shoes, mild burns, or viruses such as herpes. Popping them uncleanly can invite infection. Seek advice if they spread, come with fever, or appear near the mouth or eyes.

Possible causes

  • Shoe or tool friction
  • Burns or heat
  • Viral infections (e.g. cold sores)
  • Allergy to medicines or chemicals
  • Skin diseases

When to see a doctor

See a clinic if blisters are large, pus-filled, spreading fast, or stop you walking.
