ZANZIBAR is seeking new and affordable financing sources for major strategic projects, including the Mangapwani Integrated Port, energy expansion and a proposed 10,000-house programme, as the government moves to reduce reliance on conventional loans and government guarantees.
the government was working with the financial sector to explore alternative sources of financing that would enable large amounts of funds to be mobilised earlier for major infrastructure projects. He cited infrastructure bonds as one of the financing mechanisms that could be used to increase the availability of funds for major projects without relying solely on the gradual collection of domestic revenue.
ZANZIBAR President, Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, said his government is continuing to explore new and affordable sources of financing to implement major strategic projects and accelerate the development of Zanzibar.
