• The appeal was made recently by a water quality specialist from the Mwanza Water Supply and Sanitation Authority (MWAUWASA), Zahra Ulole during a public awareness campaign on the importance of water treatment.
• She explained that the treatment process begins at Lake Victoria, the city’s main water source, where various chemicals are added to remove impurities and make the water safe for human consumption.
• We also educate residents on the use of calcium hypochlorite (chlorine), which destroys harmful microorganisms in water,” she said.
• The specialist said MWAUWASA uses specialised equipment to treat water and continuouslymonitor its quality to ensure it meets national safety standards before distribution.
