- Mwegoha said.Established under the Mzumbe University Act No. 21 of 2001, the institution has grown from the former Local Government Training Centre established in 1953 into one of Tanzania's leading public universities.
- MZUMBE University has invested 15.66bn/- in 27 development projects during the 2025/26 financial year as it expands academic infrastructure and prepares to increase student enrolment to 22,000 in the 2026/27 academic.
- Mwegoha said the university has earmarked Sh4.83 billion from internally generated funds for development projects during the 2026/27 financial year.The planned investments include expansion of the Mbeya campus health.
- Mwegoha said student enrolment has increased steadily from 13,074 in the 2021/22 academic year to 17,955 in 2025/26, driven by expanded academic programmes and improved infrastructure.
- The university expects enrolment to reach 22,000 students in the coming academic year.Among the completed projects are new academic and administration buildings at the Morogoro campus and the Dar es Salaam Tegeta.
