Poverty Rate Declines to 25.1% in 2025

The 2025 Household Income and Expenditure Survey shows that basic needs poverty in Mainland Tanzania declined to 25.1 percent, from 26.4 percent in 2018.

Results from the 2025 Household Budget Survey showed that 25.1 percent of Tanzania Mainland still live below the basic needs poverty line, although the figure has steadily declined from 34.4 percent in 2007 and 26.4 percent in 2018.

The findings indicate that basic needs poverty in Mainland Tanzania continued to decline, with the proportion of the population living below the basic needs poverty line falling to 25.1 per cent in 2025, down from 34.4 per cent in 2007.
