The Management of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), led by the Commissioner General, Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda, held discussions with a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by Mr. Thabo Letjama, on a range of tax administration matters.
The meeting, held on July 27, 2026, at the TRA Headquarters in Dar es Salaam, focused on strengthening cooperation and reviewing progress in tax administration and revenue mobilization.
Speaking during the meeting, Commissioner General Mwenda said TRA has continued to strengthen its relationship with taxpayers across the country, a move that has significantly enhanced voluntary tax compliance and contributed to increased domestic revenue collection.
He noted that the Authority has also intensified efforts to broaden the tax base by registering new taxpayers while facilitating business growth and other economic activities. He added that TRA continues to modernize tax administration through digital systems, including the Integrated Domestic Revenue Administration System (IDRAS) for domestic taxes and the Tanzania Customs Integrated System (TANCIS) for customs operations.
Mr. Mwenda further affirmed that TRA will continue working closely with the IMF to strengthen tax administration, including ensuring the timely processing of Value Added Tax (VAT) refunds for eligible taxpayers
On his part, the Head of the IMF delegation, Mr. Thabo Letjama, commended TRA for its strong performance in tax administration and its continued efforts to facilitate trade and improve taxpayer services.
He also praised TRA for maintaining close engagement with taxpayers and reaffirmed the IMF’s commitment to further strengthening the long-standing partnership and cooperation between the two institutions.
